Book Review: It Must Have Been You!

It Must Have Been You is a children’s picture book written by Zanib Mian and illustrated by her sister Fatima Mian. I love that this book is a team effort of two siblings.

This is a quirky, rhyming story of a cute little girl who unintentionally makes a mess everywhere she goes through her innocent child-like actions; and is caught in the act by pointing fingers of different family members every time! She just can’t do anything right…or can she?

The book is clever and funny with wonderful illustrations. Fatima, who is a graphic designer, incorporates the words of the story into the art. The words weave through the pages, rolling and tumbling in different shapes, sizes and patterns making the story a very interactive one.

I had a marvelous time reading with my boys, looking for the words and following them throughout the artwork. The story has a positive message about families and love.
Young children will also resonate with the mess and troubles the little girl finds herself in… my boys certainly did!

With enough repetition and innovative design, this great read-aloud story is fantastic for sharing time and time again.

I whole heartly recommend this book and know it will be a popular bedtime read.

I was first introduced to Zanib’s books by my sister who attended one of her story reading workshops and brought a signed copy of her book Never too Small. It was an instant hit with my 6 year old. You can read the review of the book on my Facebook page

I look forward to reading more books by Zanib Mian.

Happy reading!
